Our Mission

Rising Stargirls is dedicated to encouraging girls of all colors and backgrounds to learn, explore, and discover the universe. We do this by engaging girls in interactive astronomy workshops using theater, writing, and visual art to address each girls as a whole. This provides an avenue for individual self-expression and personal exploration that is interwoven with scientific engagement and discovery. We are committed to the idea that there is no one way to be a scientist, and that together, both science and the arts can create enlightened future scientists and imaginative thinkers.

Rising Stargirls is based out of UC Irvine and is supported in part by the UCI Department of Physics and Astronomy. With the generous time and effort of graduate students, and in kind contributions of office space and administrative support, our partnership enhances our mission to inspire and empower young girls to engage in science using the arts, writing, and theater. Additionally, we are thrilled to share that Rising Stargirls is funded through a Heising-Simons Foundation grant, ensuring our impactful work continues through 2028. Together, we're creating a brighter future for the next generation of scientists!

No star is ever lost we once have seen,
We always may be what we might have been.
